U15 Margaret Peden Winners - Parramatta DCA
On Sunday November 20, Parramatta hosted Camden at Merrylands Park in the Final of the U15 Margaret Peden Shield for 2016-17. On a picture-perfect day, Camden set an imposing total of 9/149 off their allotted 40 overs, thanks in large to a stellar knock from Emily Hollis who finished with 83 runs. On the ropes early at 5/48, Emily was joined by Tiarne Waights (31) for a 77 run partnership to steady the ship. Parramatta's Hayler Silver-Holmes (3/18 off 8) and Elise Noble (3/38 off 8) were standouts in the field.
In response, Parramatta lost a wicket in the first over, before an outstanding partnership between Silver-Holmes (31) and Noble (60) laid the foundation for a winning score. With Camden taking some late wickets and the run rate climbing, Parramatta kept their heads to complete a successful run-chase, and claim the Margaret Peden Shield in a highly-competitive field.
Across town, Bankstown DCA claimed the U13 Mollie Dive Shield, after Parramatta were forced to forfeit the final match of the season. Played with 8 teams, the competition was 'first past the post', with no final series; instead, all teams played each other over 7 rounds. Demonstrating amazing consistency throughout the competition, Bankstown won all 7 matches, ahead of a strong Penrith outfit who dropped their only match to Bankstown in round 3.
Congratulations to all teams on a terrific season!
